1. Fragiani Island

Fragiani Island is my first-person exploration game where players collect 18 ‘Golden Balls’ across an island I built from scratch in Unreal Engine. The world was hand-sculpted and later enriched with free castle assets and while gameplay is simple, the world is immersive, with realistic landscapes and rich sound design. I implemented 3D spatial audio, dynamic attenuation, and location-specific reverbs to enhance atmosphere - cavernous spaces reflect longer reverberation tails, while open fields retain a drier, more immediate sound. Interactive objects produce responsive sounds, creating a fully engaging environment. All SFX were carefully curated, and my original score reinforces the game’s tone.

2. If We Were Fish

When composing, I often enjoy writing about something from the beginning of the project, even if I’m not writing to a brief. This can be seen in a newer composition of mine, If We Were Fish, where I have chosen to write about the challenges of living in the sea. With this method of writing, I naturally write with a structure that consists of numerous contrasting sections to depict storytelling.

3. Escaping Samsara

Escaping Samsara refers to breaking the cycle of reincarnation and attaining enlightenment - an idea central to Buddhist thought, where the pursuit of knowledge and truth leads to a life freed from suffering. In exploring this sound world, I drew inspiration not only from the musicality and spiritual depth of composers such as Beethoven and Arvo Pärt, but also from East Asian voices like Ryuichi Sakamoto, whose work offered a contrasting perspective. The harmonic language reflects this blend of influences, containing sonorities that, for me, symbolise peace.
Although the title evokes a spiritual narrative, this work is not written in a filmic idiom; instead, it is a chamber piece for quintet. The tonal journey of the work mirrors the imperfect and unpredictable nature of personal change. Through fluid, seamless modulations, the music suggests that hardship can be navigated and ultimately resolved. Similarly, the intentionally sparing use of octave doubling - common in classical and neoclassical writing - allows each instrument to retain its own identity, ensuring the ensemble is used to its fullest expressive potential.

4. Paperman

In this original orchestral score, re-composed for the short Disney animation, Paperman, I explored the link between visuals and audio (including my own SFX). I incorporated elements of jazz harmony and recuring motifs with the aim of captivating the audience in a completely different way compared to previous compositions. This composition was done during the Lockdown in January 2021 and so the absence of a deadline allowed me to take the time to understand the characters in this film and thus translate fully what the screenwriter was trying to portray through music.

5. The Edge of Madness
I chose a personally meaningful poem: The Edge of Madness, written by my cousin, to enhance my skills in vocal composition and text setting. Written for three voices, it explores the emotions of scepticism and uncertainty that accompany innovation and discovery.
Theme Park Suite attempts to depict the emotional journey of riding a theme park attraction, from initial fear to exhilaration and eventual confidence. It begins with clashing musical ideas representing inner conflict, using powerful low strings and anxious percussion to capture hesitation and panic. As the music develops, ascending horn and woodwind lines mirror the climb of the roller-coaster, while contrasting rhythms and dynamics evoke the unpredictability of the ride. The final section, “Soaring Through,” conveys joy and liberation through fuller orchestration and smooth melodic flow, symbolising overcoming fear through familiarity. The piece concludes triumphantly, reflecting both the thrill and emotional growth of the experience—making it an ideal accompaniment to a theme park advertisement.
